Q

Is there a reliable way to separate the concept of:
1) dreams (what we see at night)
and...
2) dreams (our best hopes for the future)

in English? ๐Ÿคจ

Comments

Sadly the only reliable way to distinguish the two ways of saying dreams is in the way you word a sentence or phrase

Scott nutting

In Germany we say daydreams or goals :)

I would stick with dreams for what we see at night, but alternative words for our best hopes for the future could be; hopes, aspirations, desires, wishes, ambitions. Whenever I'm stuck on things like this I cheat and use this site; https://www.thesaurus.com/

I believe so too. I think the only way to seperate the two is the establish the context?

Yellow Goose

You can say what I dreamt of last night (sleep). My hopes and dreams for the future (conscious thoughts) Essentially using the surrounding words to emphasize what you are referring to

William Green

I believe she's looking for an alternative word. Hopefully she will correct me if I'm mistaken.
