I hate the "adoption to make her a descendant of Katherine" storyline, that is literally goes against the lore of doppelganger. Stefan tells Elena that he secretly watched her to learn everything about her (aka stalked her) and then tells her that he learned she was adopted and is a descendant of Katherine even though when she was in GA he told her he had no idea what her connection to Katherine was. Just another of the endless number of lies he has told Elena in order to emotionally manipulate her to form a false bond of love while she was drowning in grief, which he knew!
