Updated Plans for Language Barriers v2.0
Added 2021-07-20 01:41:44 +0000 UTCHello everyone! Sorry I've been a bit MIA lately - between my new job and moving into my new apartment (which I'm still furnishing and decorating...), I've barely had any time to work on modding. Thankfully, I was finally able to sit down for a couple days and crank out LB v2.0 alpha 5 for you. Anyways, this post isn't about that - it's about what to expect next.
I'll be the first to admit that LB v2.0 has been taking way too long to develop, especially over the past month or so, and I still haven't gotten to everything I had planned. If I continue at this rate, it won't be done until late August or September, which is just ridiculous. I am extremely eager to get this update out to everyone, and having it be locked to Patrons for as long as it has been does not sit well with me. Also, quite honestly, I'm starting to get burnt out from it.
So, I'm deciding to split the update... again. I will not be adding any new features to alphas from this point forward, and will instead focus on ironing out the features I've already added, but haven't finished (such as language families, the new traits, and the new buffs). This should put LB v2.0 on track to start beta by the end of July, or early August at the latest. I only anticipate that there will be one or two more alphas, and they will be very small.
The good news
- You will still get the vast majority of features mentioned in this post in v2.0
- Pancake patrons and translators will finally get the early access they've been waiting for, and the public release will follow soon after (2-3 weeks, depending on bug fixes/tweaks that need to be made)
- The features that do not make it into v2.0 will come in free, minor updates of their own, and will be available to the public immediately when finished. You can expect these to come in the weeks/months following the release of LB v2.0
The bad news
- Some features are being postponed until a later date. These include spawning based on language, using ethnicity to determine default languages, using languages to determine whether or not an interaction succeeds, and some new social interactions I had planned.
- Splitting the update again means that the education and careers update is inevitably going to be pushed back... again. I will make a poll to gauge which features people want most, so I know what to prioritize. If more people want education and careers, then I might put the aforementioned features on the back-burner indefinitely.
Thanks for understanding, and for the continued support while I'm caught up doing things in my personal life - I appreciate it. I can't wait for LB v2.0 to be available to everyone, I'm really proud of how it's coming along.
